COVID-19 Response:

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the Majdal Center has been doing its part to support the community through material support, awareness and education, and research.

Material Support

The pandemic exacerbated existing needs for our community members surrounding housing, food and supplies, and employment. In response, we supported community members in accessing resources for rental and utilities assistance and food distribution.

Awareness & Education

The Majdal Center, as a member of the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition, partnered with the County of San Diego to expand its community health work. We welcomed to the team a Community Health Worker to develop resources around how to best defend against COVID-19 and to raise awareness about the virus through information circulation and workshops.

Research

Through the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition, we conducted interviews with families regarding the impact of COVID-19 on their wellbeing, socioeconomic status, and education. The findings of our research were published in this report, also covered by the San Diego Tribune. You can access the report here.
